How to protect your contents from duplication
68
Are you sure your contents are not duplicated out there? How would you feel if you know your articles duplicated without your permission? You definitely feel irritated, annoyed, offended to the culprit. So what can you do for such “violations”?
On the internet, many people who are not creative (they are creative in “breaking the rules”) using others creativities (writings) or creations for their own benefit and many writers don’t know their writings have been duplicated. I had experienced it.
Accidentally, I found a lot of my articles are duplicated from the first word to the last one including the images. In short, the whole articles are exactly the same. Then I learned more and the fact is several hours after the article published, the same article appeared on other sites, I’m confused, how they did it. I got a clue, if they could duplicate it from the RSS Feed of a site and it can complaint to Google and I did it.
After complaints, a new problem arise, Google asking my copyright, on what basis I claimed that the articles are my copyright, they need evidence in the form a copyright number and don’t have it because I didn’t know before. I panicked because to complain about something to Google without any evidence can be considered as spam or make false accusations against a site or a person and this could harm our Adsense account (some sources say so) and I tried to find the answer. I have asked a few places and those really help are the Google Help Forum (someone named Gracey) and my friend who is also a member of Hubpages, Cheeky Girls who have been enlightening (many thanks to you both).
From the Google Help Forum I got the hint, to have a copyright number, we can get it on MyFreeCopyright.com and it’s free. After having a copyright number, at the time of publication of a new article, I follow up my complaint to Google and include a copyright number of my articles. A few days later I received a reply that the Google has traced my complaints and thanks God, my complaints be addressed and my request is granted, the Google Team is wise.
What I learned from this incident? I get, if we experience an entirely new problem like that, we should not panic, do not be careless, find evidence that could support our complaints, so we will be taken seriously.
For more details, several steps must be done
Because duplication of articles is often the case, before you find your article is duplicated, immediately get a copyright number and one of which is MyFreeCopyright.com (It’s Free). You simply register, fill in with complete data including email address and copy-paste the badge code and post it on your site, each new article is published will be sent an email.
If you already hold a copyright number and by chance found your contents duplicated without permission, you can send a notification or if not responded, do the more extreme step by reporting it to Google as a final solution at Google DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) And follow the instructions (I do not recommend).
If the evidence you provided is right, Google’s Team could remove the blog which duplicated your contents, removing duplicate articles from Google Search, depending on what is your complaint.
By holding a copyright number which is installed on your site/blog, other sites will “think twice” to duplicate you contents and if they still do it, you have a “weapon” to against them and from me, don’t panic even if it is something new, don’t do something in a hurry and very risky and I hope this article helps.

Very useful--thank you! I've already checked out myfreecopyright.com and found it a very good resource to protect my writing and my husband's photos. I was surprised they have an option for protecting RSS feeds as well.
Really helpful one Aris. Found copied content of mine and another hubbers just the other day. Will check out the site but what about articles already published. Thanks.
I, too, would like to know how articles already published can be protected.
I am going to register all of mine. The registration will show today's date, but I still have the file date on Word where I saved them originally.
Thanks for this important information, Aris. Does one have to get a copyright number for every article published, or only one for your site, I wonder. I better visit MyFreeCopyright.com without delay.
Thank you very much for this hub. I too, would like to be registered on this MyFreeCopyright.com. Bookmark. Thanks for sharing.
